Hi, there! Thank you for your interest in getting to know more about me. Nandeshwar is my last name and Ashutosh is my given name. I grew up in a city where the summers are hot, oranges are sweet and people are, well, like any other city, nice. Now, I live in a state where the summers are hot, trees are tall, and water is scarce. I have two wonderful boys and a beautiful wife.

I am interested in various things, such as open source software, early childhood education, evolutionary anthropology and paleontology, music mixing, astronomy, personal and professional development, lifestyle hacking, writing/reading, film/video making, stand up, and of course, data.

Short Media Bio

The author of Tableau Data Visualization Cookbook, Ashutosh R. Nandeshwar is one of the few analytics professionals in the higher education industry who has developed analytical solutions for all stages of the student life cycle (from recruitment to giving). He enjoys speaking to technical and non-technical audiences about the power of data, as well as ranting about data professionals who chase after “interesting” things. He received his PhD/MS from West Virginia University and his BEng from Nagpur University, all in industrial engineering. Currently, he is leading the data science, reporting, and relationship management efforts at the University of Southern California. You can follow him on Twitter @n_ashutosh and find his website at: http://www.nandeshwar.info.

What You’ll Find Here

On my blog, you will find use of data/analytics in business and education and tips on professional development. You will also find my bias against generating and glorifying “interesting” information. I’m totally paraphrasing Wayne Gretzky here: you lose 100% of your analysis that the reader doesn’t act on.

Feel free to contact me if you think I could be of any help to you (minus people who want to transfer money). I could be of help in these areas:

  • Consulting: feel free to reach out about any analytics related questions you may have; if I don’t know the answer, I’ll try to direct you to the right resources
  • Speaking: if you think that I will be a good fit for your group, please let me know. Usually, I speak on these topics: data driven decision making, data visualization, and data science
  • Advising: if you need advising with your research (PhD, MS, or others), let me know, but please make sure that I’ll be the right person for your research
  • Training: I would enjoy training your group in data science, business analytics, or data visualization
